H₂ Barge 2

Realization Zero-Emission Inland Vessel

H₂ Barge 2 is the second inland cargo ship from Future Proof Shipping (FPS) to be operated completely emission-free. The vessel was launched in February 2024 and will now use hydrogen to transport goods on the Rhine between Rotterdam and Duisburg.

The ship previously sailed under the name FPS Waal and used to be a conventionally powered container ship. It is now powered by PEM fuel cells, hydrogen storage, battery packs and an electric drive train installed below deck. It is expected to save an estimated 3,000 tons of CO₂ per year.
