Welcome to the website www.rh2ine.eu.

RH2INE is an initiative of the province of Zuid-Holland and the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Industry, Climate Action and Energy of North Rhine-Westphalia and supported by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Water Management in the Netherlands. Currently the network is being coordinated by the Province of Zuid-Holland and NRW.Energy4Climate. Since 2019 the network is constantly growing, currently consisting of more than 35 public and private stakeholders from the Netherlands, Belgium, Austria and Germany.

Hydrogen is a gas. It is abbreviated to H2. You cannot see it or smell it, but it contains energy. Hydrogen can therefore be used to refuel lorries, generate electricity or produce steel, for example.

We don't use that much hydrogen today. We mainly consume crude oil, coal and natural gas. These are also known as fossil fuels. Burning fossil fuels is bad for the climate because it produces greenhouse gases.

Greenhouse gases cause our climate to change more quickly and make our planet warmer. Climate change also leads to more frequent severe weather events, such as storms or prolonged droughts. When the earth gets warmer, icebergs melt and the sea level rises. Sometimes people have to leave their homes because of climate change, as they can no longer grow crops due to drought.

But hydrogen is good for climate protection. Hydrogen can be produced using green electricity from wind turbines or solar panels. This does not produce any greenhouse gases.

That's why we want more hydrogen instead of fossil fuels. That way we can protect the climate and have a better future for ourselves and our children.

On this page you will find information on projects that deal with the topic of hydrogen.

Many hydrogen projects have been launched in recent years. As there are already so many, we want to use the map to provide an overview. So everyone can get a good overview.
